Inspired by this dress from Alexander McQueen's Joan of Arc spring/summer show of 1998

"Blak Empress" uses a found MTA promotional poster as a canvas to explore themes latent in my body of work, intense queer desire, unyielding resilience, and transformation. Through vivid spray-painted layers and bold stencil techniques, the piece channels the fired feminine intensity of McQueen's design while embodying personal themes of resilience, and the reclamation of public spaces as sites of artistic expression.

"Blak Empress" is a piece made with my friend and longtime collaborator Ian Henderson.
